The limitation is not necessarily in the training, but the logistics of preventing or defusing an active shooter scenario.

And that is not limited to active shooters, but bombers, use of vehicles as weapons, arson attacks, poisoners/chemical attacks, and others.

When you have a high density of people, it is relatively easy for a person with the mindset to kill to do a lot of damage before he or she can be stopped even with the best trained police in the world.

I doubt it. Even we paid tax to government but nothing could change.

My response may have been one word but, I could not be so concise without a lot of research, some of which has been repeated here ad nauseum. I'll repeat one of the concerns, just the same. NYPD is a very effective police force, New York natives can scrap pretty well, some of the Corn-Fed tourists from the MidWest or the South can hold a man down. However, NYC is so crowded that in many cases it's as easy as shooting fish in a barrel, even if it's only for 5 seconds before some of the best trained police and a decent amount of rugged civilians intercede, a lot of damage is already done.

...by the way I was in the Army, active, for 7 years, 3 of them deployed overseas to Iraq, Iraq again and, Afghanistan... you're welcome

I’m a veteran too, 4 times deployed AND 16 year NYPD Sgt. You shouldn’t request thanks for your service. Ever.

Counter snipers have always been a part of the security for large NYC events. It’s actually public knowledge.

True, but not an easy target for someone shooting from 5 blocks away on the 50th floor. I would expect snipers deployed much further from the event location from now on

Well, I'll pony up; you're absolutely right. Normally I don't advertise my service, or respond to inquiries about it. I don't even put stickers on my car. ...but that post, ignited that rare desire in me to use my freedom of speech to just shut him down and, as right as you are, I'm not sorry.

An active shooter is far more brazen, braver and more relentless than a terrorist.

Another concern for me are liberals and snowflakes. When mass shootings take place, SJW jumps from one platform to the next and abandon their initial cause. These snowflakes and SJW wanted to fight income inequality under the Obama years, and quickly abandoned that platform to protest against Trump, than they protest against the Muslim ban, than they protested against the Confederate statues, than they protested and boycott the NFL, and now they are going to protest against guns big time.
I doubt very much that civilians without a military background have more training than NYPD ESU personnel.
Where would they get similar training?
