Some people hate on them just because they're old looking, however I don't even think they look old except for the front of the cars.

They're very aesthetic in my opinion, and they've lasted for over 50 years which shows the level of craftsmanship put into them. I enjoy riding them, and I'm glad we have these around still (in addition to the rolling stock from the 70s and 80s which remains).

I don’t like them but when I see one coming I take it. Otherwise those seats hurt my back.

The seats feel the same as the R160s (the newest ones) to me, but better

My favorite train to operate when I was a Motorman.

Love the 32's especially going to the Rockaway's and crossing the flats, love that rail window!

I'm glad they stayed in service longer than expected. Always enjoyed them and the slant R40s. All new model trains look the same, its boring. But time goes on....we can't use dated rolling stock.

I want them to keep the R32s in service forever to keep me and the railfans happy, as well as to **** off the people who only want shiny new trains.

In al seriousness though, I think they should keep them on as long as they can, especially now that service is expanding. It's not like the new trains go any faster.

Is it true that the R40s were particularly fast? My aunt is not even a railfan and she told me that they were heavy duty.

I rode an R32 the other day and it was a pleasant ride! The AC was just the right temperature, and the train hauled ass.

I wonder if some of the R32 hate is actually because of the R42s which are similar looking to the untrained eye.

It's interesting that you said that, because when the now not so new R160s first came in, I remember thinking those seats felt uncomfortable compared to the wall seats or bucket seats of the earlier models.
