That sounds like a good deal. OP should jump on that if he finds one. Although I looked up a place I thought I remembered from this board (in Wash Heights, not the Bronx) and the Google reviews were horrendous. So if possible, OP should read reviews if the place is a large lot/garage. Obviously if it's a private owner, there won't be reviews, but a privately owned space (driveway) may be safer than the large lots where the car can get dented or where you have to leave your keys to the employees.
I think it would be a mistake to leave a car on a street in a neighborhood you don't live in for days or weeks at a time. Your car should either be somewhere safe (off the street) or if you're street parking, you should be able to check on it every few days. That's my personal opinion. Maybe others would feel more comfortable taking the risk of leaving it on the street for quite some time, but I wouldn't. I might possibly leave it for a week if I were going on vacation, but I wouldn't make it a regular practice.
Also, it's true that most areas that have no street cleaning and ample places to park are not usually near the train, so this would make it difficult for OP to get there and back.
I think OP will have to put $200 a month (possibly more) in the budget for an off street space, or find somewhere to live in the outer boroughs where free street parking is manageable.
Oh no I wouldn't leave it there endlessly either. But if I was checking on it every weekend or knew someone nearby, I'd be more inclined. I was just merely pointing out that there are places where street cleaning does not exist.
My car sits on the street most days and I don't know how many times I've come out to a notice posted the night before that says they're doing road repair the next morning so you have to move your car. Basically no notice---if you parked there that morning, you wouldn't see the sign put up in the late afternoon. If you're lucky, you get two days notice.
If you will be using the car occasionally for work, then it seems like a huge hassle to park far away from home. Where in Manhattan will you be living? And where will you need to drive to for work? If you will be mostly going to Jersey for example, it will be a pain to retrieve your car from Brooklyn or Queens.
Street parking is not practical in Manhattan unless you’ll be using the car every day. Garages are expensive. Perhaps you should consider living outside of Manhattan in a neighborhood where it’s easier/cheaper to keep a car.
