Glad to hear they're still around. Another place I like (forget the name, Mon Petit?) is a tiny French bistro located near Bloomingdales. Don't know if that's still around but I used to go there a lot with my mom.
I was taken by a friend to La Bonne Soupe quite a few years ago and it was quite good.

When I'm in NYC, I like to go to the French Roast: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura..._New_York.html

I've only gone there for their pastry and Irish coffee, so I can't speak for their main courses.

Partner recommended PANAME on Second Avenue between 57th and 56th. (Bargain lunch.)

Here's their best deal: Prix Fixe Lunch:

Of course there is always Le Cirque but few would call that reasonable, same with Le Bernardin, often called the best restaurant in New York City.

No, go with La Bonne Soupe first. Nice-Matin is overpriced and overhyped. Am on the Upper West Side regularly and can confirm this. Have been eating at La Bonne Soupe *for years*.

Nice Matin is a fine brunch place but hardly the place else to begin learning about French dining. La Bonne Soupe is a cute, inexpensive little place, quite home and quaint. Neither tone is fine dining or really very representative of restaurants in France.

Another vote for La Bonne Soupe.

My former favorite is fleur de sel, but that’s unfortunately been closed for years now. It was fantastic, and while pricey, the dinners were worth it and the lunches were bargains. Now I’m curious if anyone on this forum knows where their chef Cyril is now since Bar Breton also closed a few years ago.
