LA’s subway is only a small part of the overall system as it’s mostly light rail. In general absent any announced work the published schedule is pretty accurate. The trains generally come when they’re supposed to. Light rail is another story.
But I guess my point is that you can’t compare a 17 mile long subway “system†like LA to NYCT. Other than that, yeah NYCT timeliness sucks. That shouldn’t be news to anyone.
Difficult to take that ranking seriously - the comparable system in age and size is London. Its not listed.....
London's system will undoubtedly have much higher reliability than NYC's. Old systems that are also massive such as that of Paris and Berlin do make an appearance on this list. I get that there needs to be apples to apples comparison, but even when that's done, NYC's transit system does have serious issues. This isn't a burn the subway kind of thing--it's more that it's increasingly obvious that the subway and the agency that runs it needs reform and improvement.
What does "on time" even mean if trains take 4-20 minutes between trains though? I understand framing it as on time or not if they were spaced out by a few hours. New Yorkers think way too highly of themselves when it comes to where should be... on time! that said, the subway sucks, but nyc sucks. I only live here cuz I insist on living a sucky life and im a masochist which is probably a huge percent of people who remain here.
