Agreed. If she wants the Sex and the City life though, she can probably be an elite socialite in Baltimore on that salary, whereas in NY, she is average. But if she wants NY she should be in Manhattan. She is obviously not asking for an outerborough type environment, and probably would not be happy there just to save money.

This city is starting to become really bland and predictable. People use the crime improved line and yes thats good, but personal safety can be had by being street smart, plenty of people I know had little or no problems in bad neighborhoods in the 70s/80s etc just by using their heads. However, there will be a day when real diversity will be extinct. This faux-diversity garbage aka "I'm from Ohio and my roommate is from Kansas and OMG I <3 NY best nightlife ever!!!" is a joke when kids (REGARDLESS OF SKIN COLOR) are all searching for the SAME MTV, Sex and the City, Friends, etc inspired lifestyle of elite finance/entertainment/etc management or lawyer jobs, black cars to clubs and vip tables with bottle service, Saturday afternoon shopping sprees in SoHo, becoming a self proclaimed Sushi and Thai food expert, etc.

One thing I must say is Seinfeld is not in the same group as Sex and the City and Friends. Seinfeld has no glamour, its just a bunch of old time NY characters getting the best laughs out of nothing. Great show.

Oh, and getting your hair done to sex n city specs--will cost you a hundred a pop. You'll need to go twice a month.

ONE HUNDRED? WHERE? Decent hairdressers for women in THAT caliber are at LEAST $300 to START (that's a simple cut/blow dry).

Ok let do some math here. She will make $150k and after tax, its more like $90k. That's $7500/month. Let's say she got a $3k apt. That leave u with $4500. Let's say u eat out each nite, nothing fancy, $20-$30 meal. That's $600-$900/month. Subtract that from $4500. She has $3900-$3600/month left. That leaves her for expensives cloths and shoes, utilities bill, cable and inetenet etc. So it is doable.
It's doable, but it also assumes no travel anywhere, no retirement savings, and sticking to $20-30 for the meals. There was a guy on here who spent $1000 on a Friday night for a MacDougal St. diner and a nightclub. It sounds like this OP wants that kind of life.

Maybe she's hoping to find a rich boyfriend to take her out...

HAHA wow what a waste. $1000 can get you 5 days all inclusive at a nice hotel in the Bahamas or Jamaica.

$20-$30 per meal? That wouldn't cover nightly drinks for the Sex and the City set.

I read somewhere that more people have been killed on all of the various Law and Orders than have actually killed in Manhattan over the same period of time. It's all make-believe. If life were like tv, we would all be doctors, lawyers, cops, crime scene investigators or contestants on reality shows.

Let's find the guy from a couple of weeks ago and put them in touch. He only likes 9s and 10s who hang out in the Meatpacking, though, so she better be gorgeous...

1. How accurate is Sex and the City as my basis for New York life?

I'm not sure if I'd trust you as my nurse anesthetist. How accurate do you think a TELEVISION show written by gay MEN is? This is how NY'ers feel about yet another SATC wannabe:

Chris Noth, who’s still best known for playing Mr. Big on Sex and the City, is ready to repent for all the harm that series did to New York. At the opening-night party for Talk Radio, he lamented, “What makes me really sick is how New York now looks like a bad imitation of Sex and the City. Meatpacking is a good example of just how ****ed up it is. You can’t have a city that’s interesting where the only people living in it are rich. When I came here as a kid, as a young adult, you could get lost—many different worlds collided. You cannot say that today.”

I loved your post!!! It's obvious this chick wants to live in fantasy land, which is really pathetic. Just tell her all the 20 somethings with her income requirements, which how shallow are you go want to find all those in your income range, are at Central Perk and let her be on her way.
