Yes mine also I had a Extensive July vacation planned that now i re scheduled to Mid September It's all Good!!!

No problem sharing as i find it as we all would like to get closer views of our future home And all the hoopla around it. Here is part of another i found with a nice picture from the Interior Plaza looking towards the Amphitheater

The structure’s planted roof terraces extend all the way down to the courtyard, around which the shorter, 3-4 story townhouses are wrapped. Rainwater is collected from all of the roofs and stored on-site for reuse and each apartment is equipped with two facades to ensure maximum daylighting and natural ventilation. Energy and water devices are installed as well, making this one of the highest performing low-income housing complexes in America.
20% of the materials used to construct Via Verde were recycled and an additional 20% were sourced locally, keeping the embedded carbon footprint very low. More than 80% of the debris created during construction has been recycled as well, proving once again that it is possible to create affordable, earth-friendly homes without breaking the bank. The homes are so coveted that 7,000 people sent in applications for the 151 apartment rentals.
“No one would have predicted that there would one day be one of the most innovative, exciting, environmentally sustainable affordable housing developments in the nation – if not the world,” said Mayor Bloomberg at the ribbon cutting ceremony. “The change that has swept through the South Bronx in the last decade challenges the very notions of what is and isn’t possible in urban revival. And investment in high-quality affordable housing – made possible by partnerships like the one behind Via Verde – has been the catalyst,”

These articles are amazing! It's especially nice to see VV brimming with activity & people in this latest batch of photos! But, I'm surprised that as a purchaser, I wasn't notified of this grand opening. I would've loved to witness the ribbon cutting on the building that I plan on living in for at least the next decade or so... Oh well. We'll have to all have our own resident celebration when we finally move in! Did any renters on here get to witness the ribbon cutting?

ANOTHER ARTICLE ON OPENING CEREMONY...

Interesting Canopy/Tent with Podium and portable seating in the Interior Plaza...

Viva Verde!

By Rick Bell, FAIA, Executive Director, AIA New York

Rick Bell, FAIA, gives closing remarks.
Daniel Fox

Event: Via Verde Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
Location: Via Verde, 700 Brook Avenue, Bronx, NY, 06.18.12
Speakers: Shaun Donovan, United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development; Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor, City of New York; Jonathan F.P. Rose, President, Jonathan Rose Companies; Adam Weinstein, President, Phipps Houses; Frank Bisignano, Chief Administrative Officer and Mortgage Banking CEO, JPMorgan Chase; Congressman Jose E. Serrano; Darryl C. Towns, Commissioner and CEO, NYS Homes and Community Renewal; Bronx Borough President Rubin Diaz, Jr.; Council Member Maria del Carmen Arroyo; Rick Bell, FAIA, Executive Director, AIA New York
These remarks were delivered at the closing of Via Verde’s Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony, 06.18.12.
New housing that New Yorkers can afford has often seemed to be an unrealizable dream. Today marks the opening of Via Verde, a truly remarkable and innovative mixed-income development.
The American Institute of Architects New York Chapter is happy to have had a role in initiating the project, along with the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the New Housing New York Steering Committee – led by Lance Jay Brown, FAIA, with Mark Ginsberg, FAIA, both here today – which challenged the design team to create an exemplary model that would create new and replicable standards for green affordable housing design.
Two extraordinary firms, Dattner Architects and Grimshaw Architects, represented today by Richard Dattner, FAIA, Bill Stein, FAIA, Adam Watson, AIA, and Venesa Alicea, AIA, along with Vincent Chang, AIA, Andrew Whalley, AIA, and Robert Garneau, AIA, combined to win the contest. They joined with Jonathan Rose Companies and Phipps Houses to get it built. It was important to all that the new housing create opportunities for a healthier way of life.
The complex, one of the first to follow the recently published NYC Active Design Guidelines, allows for more physical mobility. Stair use is encouraged by making the stairways attractive and easy to find. Windows in the interior stairways help, as do the bright paint colors. Stairs also head up from the courtyard to the lush terraced vegetable gardens, planted by GROW NYC – with special thanks to Gerard Lordahl. These culminate in the health club level where another design might have put a penthouse apartment. Solar panels and other common-sense environmental features, such as ceiling fans, also lower energy use and carbon footprint. Apartments benefit from cross-ventilation, so that air conditioning use will be less necessary.
For those who have seen the cycle of disinvestment and destruction in the South Bronx, the building of housing on what had been an overgrown, polluted, and seemingly unbuildable site seems almost miraculous. Turning the rubble-strewn lot into the Via Verde, shows that a “green way” exists not only when market forces align, but when there is a spirit of design creativity joined to community demand.
Today we come together to celebrate Via Verde’s opening. Let us all agree, going forward, that the creation of beautiful, healthy, and affordable housing is an absolute priority. Viva verde!
Rick Bell, FAIA, is the Executive Director of AIA New York.

@NYCsinger - I agree. The purchaser's missed out on the ceremony. Alos, we weren't able to celebrate and not be able to enjoy two holidays. Lastly, we are missing out on the roof top gardening experience. I can't wait to taste the fruits and vegetables. This wait is so frustrating.

@ DownTownBX - Thanks again for sharing the photos. BTW: I just put in for tentative vacation for August. Moving in August is going to suck. Well, hopefully we'll get to enjoy one month of summer.

I agree with @NYCsinger and @Mstaz10451, I would have loved to attend.

If we have another fall like last year than we should have a few months to enjoy the outdoor space.

Yea but we will get our shot to shine. This seemed to be about the builders, Politicians rtc and the official Press event. I am sure when we move in there will be something so that the residents will have the spot light. Yea the out door spaces are looking good and will put up some images and video shortly that i took when i did my walk thru and another tour of the rooftop spaces. Had an opportunity to take home some veggies. GREAT! Nice Fresh salads and Greens. Collards, Kale and Spinach! YUMMY!!!!
