Not every job requiring a degree means you need to have a tech degree. Amazon would hire people to do general office work, HR, advertising, etc. And some of this WOULD be local Black and Hispanic.

The city would love to get Amazon to move to some place like the Bronx. De Blasio doesn't have to worry about getting reelected for mayor, and if Amazon chose NYC, de Blasio would use that to try to launch a run for office. Maybe Bezos would give him some money.
Also don't forget support industries that will utilize or be client to Amazon 2nd headquarters. Why do you think factories have business around it. It's like a Roach feeding off droppings from people.

In terms of jobs, Amazon will hire top candidates. This will come from all over the USA, Canada, Europe, Inidia. Let's remember the animosity that some posters have for "Transplants". This will bring more of those people. LOL. U guys are funny!
Okay, let’s use your logic. Wouldn’t 50,000 transplants to Newark, a city that needs that economic boost like you suggest, drive up the cost of living there and drive out the people there now?

Surely 50K people to Newark (or some other similar city) overwhelm it more than much larger NYC? 50K new people in NYC wouldn’t even be a blip.

If Amazon does come to NYC, then you will see gentrification on steroids. Just look at places like Seattle, SF, where tech companies have big shops. All the poor people around will get pushed out.

There's no room here and already expensive, don't need SF prices here.

What logic? I stated "Let's remember the animosity that some posters have for "Transplants". This will bring more of those people. LOL. U guys are funny!" Is this not the case? I have seen several threads that were anti-transplants/anti-gentrification in this forum. An Amazon HQ in NYC will exacerbate those scenarios.

If it does then that is Newark's problem not mine. NYC is already super expensive. Is Newark as expensive as NYC?

Surely 50K people to Newark (or some other similar city) overwhelm it more than much larger NYC = I would assume the NJ Governor and Newark Mayor considered those factors before putting their city in the run for the HQ. Didn't they?

I noticed your location is New Jersey. Why are you against Amazon calling Newark home? This would gentrified Newark. make it safer, etc. It's also close to NYC. So i can see Amazon just calling it home. Downtown NYC is a subway or taxi ride away.

When did I say someone was going to get a job as a janitor and move up the corporate ladder? I made no such claim.

Being hired by an outsourced agency still means workers with just a high school degree will benefit from
Amazon’s presence.
