My father’s parents left in ‘75. My grandfather kept some real estate here, including his office building, but they moved full time by ‘75. He commuted from Toms Ricer every day till around ‘90 when he retired (he was a well-known attorney). My mother isn’t from here.
But not everyone left. Plenty of generational Staten Islanders are still around. To be homest, most of my circle of friend’s never had family move. I was the only one constantly traveling to NJ to visit family.
