I have an interview in May... I’ve been working 9 months now as a independent contractor therefore I do not have tax returns for the past two years in this position However I also work for the city and has those tax returns. Will that affect my status not being able to provide previous years tax return for the independent contractor job which is something I do as a part time position. I recently just filed a tax return for the first 6 months of the independent contractor job. Would that be sufficient along with the paystubs?
Yeah, if you have pay stubs you're not strictly self-employed. Your self-employment will simply be considered extra. They'll see the 1099 and Schedule C for the tax return that includes the independent contractor job, and then your W-2 income on the 1040. You can show invoice receipts for the 1099 job along with the pay stubs for this year. They'll see the independent contractor payments on your bank statements, and will ask about them. I just hope the two incomes don't put you over the limit. That's what I'd be worried about.
So not having the past two years tax return for the independent contractor job would not make me ineligible basically? Because that’s my biggest concern... and also thank you for replying.
I can't be sure, but since you have ongoing W-2 income, I would say no, especially since it sounds as if your W-2 income comes from your main job, and the 1099 work is supplementary. If your W-2 income is below the income threshold, I suppose these idiots could say you're below income because this self-employment job that puts you into the income bracket has not been going on for two years (again, you're not really self-employed). Whatever makes the least rational sense is what they will do, that's all I an say for sure. But just go to the interview with your pay stubs, tax records and the invoice receipts from the 1099 job for 2018 (I assume it's on your 2017 tax returns, with a 1099), and see what happens. Don't explain anything aside from answering their questions. Their minds are very limited (their not necessarily stupid, they just have narrowly confined minds), and they can't handle much info outside strict parameters.
They will combined all your income 1099/w2 and average it out along with your bank statements to determine your total income. Once the interview group is dont looking over your paperwork there, they will decide to send it to the city or not. Once they send it to the city the city will deeper into each one along with the IRS. So dont try to hide anything.
Yes...I am experiencing that right now. What can we do? I am also receiving SSDI, so it is even more complicated.
