I don't remember that ever happening when I went to school.
That's because it didn't. Still recall heading out to school while the snow was coming down hard & fast and already 8 feet deep. School didn't even close early that day & it was nearing blizzard like conditions during rush hour.
Schools in Manhattan never closed. It would have to be a blizzard for that to happen & even then they would close at the very last possible minute.
Lol @ grown men being mad that elementary schools are closed.
You do realize there are plenty of single (both gay and straight) fathers, and or those who are married (ditto) that share responsibilities for taking care of their children. This includes taking them to and fetching from school.
Have been working on project past few weeks in Chelsea, so have been on West Side often these past few weeks and have never seen so many dads taking their kids to school and or picking them up. They were every where, on streets, Broadway or 8th Avenue subway lines......
In fact was down in Tribeca today to meet with clients and ditto.
So the assumption that child rearing and including taking and fetching children home from school is strictly "mommies work" is terribly out dated.
Not to mention, we’re slated for 6-10” inches. That’s not a school-closing worthy event. They’re turning everyone into pansies.

While you guys are absolutely right that people today are definitely softer than the past, you’ve also got to understand how we arrived where we are at today. We are now a very lawsuit-happy society, and particularly the city of New York. Anything that happens to anyone in this city, and everyone is ready to sue the city for millions.
I’d even bet that someone will sue the city because school is cancelled.
“When in doubt, sue the city first, then ask questions later”
