Flatbush is big so I don't know which part you are referring to but from my recollection you can catch a few subways over on the Avenue and if you mean near Erasmus HS, lots of assorted small shops, low to moderate crime, typical City stuff, and probably mixed housing: apartment buildings and homes (at least where I am thinking the borders of Flatbush are).
