My husband's father immigrated from Central America (afro-latino), but my husband considers himself black (and not hispanic). I imagine that if other people assumed he were hispanic from his looks, he'd feel differently. There are a lot of Spanish speakers where we live, but he says no one ever comes up to him and speaks Spanish, but it happens to me sometimes and I'm white.
I'm not surprised. I think that's why some dark-skinned Hispanics practically yell in Spanish to make it clear that they aren't black. lol Speaking the language gives them a pass in their eyes.
To who? If you think I don't get discriminate by WASP and thought of as a trashy version of white at best you are mistaken. At worse, mediterranean is mixed enough that one drop rule would apply. Who can say they don't have moors ancestry.
I'm sorry, I'm gettng confused. I thought you said you were hispanic?

My husband's dad was clearly black. He said he liked to be able to hear what people said in Spanish when they thought he didn't understand.
The European immigrant groups that came to the US all eventually became considered white and are no longer discriminated. There is no real anti European immigrant sentiment in the US, however there is plenty of anti-Latino sentiment and it applies to US born Latinos as well.
Conservatives don't even seem to care if white people illegally immigrate to the US.
Those people are the exception to the norm in the US (with the exception of all the white Cubans in Florida). Even so, many half white/half Hispanic people do not consider themselves white.
There is no large scale discrimination againt Hispanics in the US. There is a difference between being less qualified and facing discriminatory practices. Hispanics are basically white people when they choose to be so.

There's a lot of variation in how hispanics look. It's silly to say that they (as a group) can simply decide to be white if they choose. There is definitely discrimination against hispanics in the US.

I am my ancestry is from Spain and migrated to Colombia during civil war. My parents migrated to US from Colombia during civil war. I was born in the US. If you study Spanish history you would see that a significant part of Spain was once conquered by North African tribe (Moors).
Tell us of some recent examples of how Hispanics are discriminated against in this country.
I have a friend (Dominican) who moved into a largely white neighborhood in the Bronx and took her kids to be enrolled in the school, and they didn't believe she lived there. They insisted on a home visit and then still delayed enrolling her kids.
They are all pretty much white people. Same for Black Caribbeans and Asians.
Black Caribbeans and Asians are white people?
