I’m wondering in the lottery Apartments process about how each company determines their process. I know every lottery is different but just curious to their algorithm . I read a few different posts on different lotteries and it’s crazy the wait times of some to others credit check or no credit check. Just seems crazy. I’m had an experience before where they did everything step by step and I’ve read experiences where the interview happened and within a month they processed the application and approved from HPD and ready to move in. Does it depend on the area or the income brackets. Just curious as to other people thoughts on this.

@TriniGirl568,

How would we know their algorithm process? Do we work there?

If you go to the NYC sites, they go in detail about the process. They won't tell you how candidates are selected, and when I asked, the response was: It is computerized.

These lotteries are for people who have time to wait. If you need an emergency because one is homeless or their man is physically abusing them - you can probably find something quicker through other channels that help people who need it.

I think the problem is that some of these managing agencies don't know what they're doing. The workers are not paid well, turnover is high, and training is minimal.

The other problem is that the buildings have construction delays and aren't ready on time. Everyone who's been processed has to wait, and wait, and wait. Then, if enough time goes by, new documents have to be submitted.

I totally agree with you. The majority of people that do this must make $13 an hour. I've dealt with them and not to be rude, but it appeared they did not seem the brightest or graduated. I would ask questions and the answer was always: I don't know.

And then some are waiting for lottery candidates to slip them a brown bag full of money. Just classless.

That makes a lot of sense many of the workers at these interviews look like they can’t be bothered. The last interview I went to they were all older ladies and looked like the managing agencies mothers. I’m assuming but they didn’t look to please to be missing their daytime soaps lol. Yes waiting is the game but it’s just a crazy process.

Lol that’s a good one too they often never know it’s definitely on their timing. I know there’s no definitive answer to my post just looking for people’s thoughts and opinions on this. I know it takes forever but I definitely think these workers are just there to get paid there not concerned about the people trying to get one of these lottery Apartments that’s how they are so quick to brush us off.
