When did hanging out with drug dealers and suuccumbing to the ghetto lifestyle qualify anyone to be a neighbohood expert...they are just an expert at thuggery and all of the negativity associated with the ghetto subculture..so please keep that in mind when reading SuperWario's posts. Best to keep things in perspective.
Nonetheless Bedford Park is a solid, working class neighborhood, and anyone that asserts that it is a "free falling" neighborhood not only has no idea about the neighborhood, they also do not understand life outide of the ghetto subculture. The neighborhood is seeing firm investment, new amenities coming online, as well as large scale investment from pension funds.....certianly NOT indicators of a neighborhood "in free fall."

You are clueless. How in hell is it not a flee falling neighborhood? Ok, tell me something. Look at the white population in 2000 and compare it to 2008. I am surprised that with your vast knowledge of the Bronx, you didnt realize that the neighborhood is experiencing white flight. Hmmmm why is that? Use your head. Alot of low-income Dominicans moving in. Making a once nice neighborhood into one that is more sketchy one and its only heading for worse.

Nah man I love platanos .
Not all Dominicans are bad as I have told you a few times. But MOST of the males from 13-35 (especially the teens) are up to no good. They sell drugs and are in gangs. So a white person can move there and he's going to stick out like a sore thumb. A group of Trinitarios pass by and they are going to have some fun at the expense of the guy. Or who knows may never happen. But the chance is there.
Oh and dont get me started on Puerto Ricans and Blacks...these are the worst of the worst. Call me racist all you want.....

You can't say that. I know PR's & Blacks get a bad rep but they still good people. In every ethnicity, there are the ****s ups, and then there are the good people who work hard everyday.

Yeah, I apologize. Went a little too far calling them born criminals. To each his own, but PR's and Black neighborhoods are the worst of the worst in the city.

I would not call you a racist SueprWario...you are just another victim of the ghetto subculture that surrounds you. You cannot tell the difference between being Hispanic and being a criminal..its a monumental loss of self, identity, and culture...which is exactly how the ghetto subculture came into existence in these urban areas.
Regarding Bedford Park..the area is certianly not in a free fall because Dominicans are moving in. Furthemore, you do not understand what white flight is if you think it is occuring in Bedford Park. White flight is a MASS exodus in a VERY short amount of time..what is occuring in Bedford park, and across the borough for that matter, has been a continual increase in Hispanics into white neighborhoods...but there has been no mass exodus of white people all of a sudden that would destabilize Bedford Park, Throggs Neck, Pelham Bay, Country Club, RIverdale, Wooldlawn, or any other white neighborhood in the Bronx.
These neighborhoods continue to see a GRADUAL increase of people of color, at a healthy rate of absorption, and not the big sell of and withdrawal of investment and services that constitutes "white flight" and a neighborhood in "free fall." You do not understand the terms, or what is occuring in these communities. Bedford Park CONTINUES to be a solid, working class enclave...and investment is INCREASING, NOT decreasing, whites continue to become a smaller percentage of the community but that is not white flight or causing disinvestment! The area is still solid, stable, and healthy..and there is no sign indicating otherwise.

When I lived in the area, Bedford Park (mid 80s) was a very nice place. A friend of mine grew up there and would often comment on how it had held together despite the turmoil that was the Bronx. By the early 90s though, things started to sour. Seemed to begin when that thug killed a cop up on the Concourse.
It has not completely slid down the toilet like points further south and I can imagine it coming back if it gets an influx of stable folks. IMHO it remains one of the most attractive areas in the 5 boroughs and I hope it makes it. I have a lot of nice memories of it and still hit the Jolly Tinker whenever I am nearby.
And that friend of mine who grew up there? He was followed home one night up Bedford Park Blvd and was attacked by two guys with carpet cutters. He survived and now resides in Spain. His final words before fleeing were, "This neighborhood is getting so bad."
It may or may not be as bad as Supermario describes. But to pretend it does not have issues is to be dishonest.
