"anytime i'm there at night i always thought it was a nice high class neighborhood"

It's basically the area right around the W. 4th St. stop and right by the water on Christopher St. that people are talking about. Most of the area is either QUITE expensive or will be when the older rent-stabilized tenants die out soon. The worst one-bed in that area starts at like $2500/month.

Some may remember that Taco Bell that was one of the first Youtube sensations with its after-hours ratpocalypse video. The McD's is still a mess. But it's not an area with a lot of public housing or similar. The problem is people coming to party in certain spots. And drunk a-holes are drunk a-holes regardless of color or orientation.

The Village described as "hood?" "Dangerous?!" C'mon. Is this really the NYC forum???

You folks are cracking me up.
I agree. You wanna see hood? Walk around 125th and Lex at any given time of the day. Do a walk on 149th & 3rd in the Bx. Make your way over to Highbridge and tour that

Ha, I can't afford to live there anymore. Liked it when I did, though.

Yea, around West 4 and Christopher you see tons of young, like teenage young, black kids from the hood. They go over there to hook up and get paid by the gay white guys. It’s pretty much prostitution. And the whole vibe is off.

I lived in the Village for years back in the day, when peeps were broke and the vibe was groovy. The Village is dead, man.

Lol. I use to hang out there. Remember the back lounge area behind the curtain where no one ever went? Let’s just say, I hope you never sat on the red couch on the right side corner...

Know there is *money* down there, but am sorry; from Sixth Avenue going west, then starting around West 4th or so that whole part of WV and Chelsea just seems ratchet.

I really hate getting off of the train at W4th. Today in the middle of the day some hobo came down, right at the entrance and just as I started to go up the stairs, he pulled down his pants and squatted. I'm very happy I missed the actual action.
