Got a letter with the date of the city job exam.
It states that no electronic devices (including cell phones) are allowed in the room.

What am I supposed to do with my phone? Is there some storage area? Am I supposed to leave the phone at home?
How does it work?

TIA.

The one and only time I went to take a city exam I did leave my phone at home. Luckily I live blocks away but when I got to the test location there were a lot of people there with their cell phones and they were allowed to bring it into the building without anyone stopping them. Guess it might be a good idea to contact the test site to see how strict they are about the no phone policy. Good luck.

Standardized and other exams (including many high schools and colleges) have been banning electronic devices for years now. It is just not that big a deal; you won't die or anything if the thing isn't tethered to your arm for few hours.

Leave it home, locked in your ride, or let someone have it while taking exam.

Problem solved.

I proctor the SAT fairly often. We collect cell phones as kids check in. We take their ID and rubber band to their phone, and when they're done and leaving, they get their phone and ID back. I'd be surprised if there wasn't some kind of system for it.

I took a state civil service test and left my phone at home only to find that out of a line that stretched down and around 2 city blocks I was the only one who had bothered. They didn't collect them or anything, just told people not to use them. And yes, it was in all the mailed instructions that phone were NOT allowed. Nobody seems to care anymore and I just felt stupid for trying to do what they told me.

Don't fret over it. Just leave it a home. It's not a vital organ.

That's what I thought.
I am going take it with me and just turn it off. How are they going to enforce this rule: search everyone?

I took two city tests. Everyone had their phones. In the test room they just tell you to turn them off and put them away. if they see it out, you FAIL.

Just because they usually don't enforce the rule doesn't mean they can't. So if you bring it, makes sure it's off, make extra sure.

Here is the deal; you were formally notified *NO* electronic devices will be allowed in testing area. Now you can co-sign onto whatever an anonymous internet post says if that makes you happy, but never the less that does not change facts on the ground.

It also speaks volumes about people looking for employment if one of their first moves is to disregard direct orders. Once employed that is called insubordination, and is ground for discharge.

However it is our life, your test, so do what makes you happy. But I'd worry less about what *can* be done if you show up with an electronic device versus what *will* happen.
