Today, there isn't that kind of persecution, but people are still very aware of these things. And Irish protestants don't wear green on St. Patrick's day.
White Southerners whose ancestors came from Ireland neither know nor care about that stuff. They’ve heavily intermarriage with Anglo Saxons, Germans, and others. The only people who would care are certain Northeasters whose families arrived in the 20th century.

.
The Irish in NYC or Boston make it very clear they're Irish Catholics.

And even that's not necessarily true, I fall into that group (Catholic Irish descent) and I'm not religious at all. Ditto most of my family members and most of my Irish-American peers

Maybe in the midwest, but not in the South so much. Though some southern wasps will have Irish genes, there is no trace of that heritage in their culture and individual gene analysis generally show <10% stock.

They're mostly English stock. And you'll actually see southern Whites with more black genes than Irish.

Point is, they're not assimilated into this pseudo-WASP culture you folks seem to theorize about. WASPs are like dragons in NYC, people talk about them like myth simply cos you don't see many here. Visit somewhere like Harrison, Arkansas where it's still 95% English Protestant stock, and you'll see the difference.

There really is no WASP phenomenon anymore. White people bicker more over politics than what type of Christianity they follow.

And it's quite common for people in general these days to not be religious.

There is. Like I said, go to the South. There are municipalities where people are literaly 95%+ WASP genes and very religious.

What the media refers to as the "white evangelicals" aka wasps actually determined this past presidential election. Their vote is heavily influenced by their conservative religious beliefs.

Catholics historically vote Democratic.

NYC is it's own place and culture and basically in it's own vacuum, unless you actually leave it you won't know anything about the rest of the nation. In the bible belt, you have huge protests at abortion clinics, you'd never see that here in NYC.
