Instead of these supposed "taxis of tomorrow," why don't they revive some version of the Checker Cab, which apparently people loved?

Shouldn't be wasting money trying be London and revive some retro looking cab. Let the drivers and/or fleet operators choose. Most of the yellow fleets seem to go with hybrids; Camry, Escape, C-Max, Highlander, etc.

Agreed... Let's move into the future, not the past.

Checker hasn't made cars since the '80s. They stayed alive as a subcontractor for GM for a while, but folded about ten years ago. So the Checker cab is NOT coming back.

In point of fact, the car companies aren't making cars nowadays that really make good taxis.

I do. they were huge on the inside. The seats and ride were uncomfortable and none of them had AC.

Vaguely. But it's almost like a dream. Were they kinda box like and how can I describe it, kind of "high" so you had to hoist yourself up in order to get inside, with the checker emblem on the side? Or am I imagining all this...

They also had a couple of fold down seats at the front of the rear passenger compartment., so you could get five people back there.

Checkers were gas guzzlers.

Their absence is the same reason we don't see Oldsmobile 98's around.
