I currently have Fidelis health insurance and was looking for a new PCP, since my PCP is way downtown and I live closer uptown around 103rd and lex. I saw that Mount Sinai offers a clinic where you can go to do your annual exam and see a PCP. I would just have to switch my PCP to one of the doctors there this will save me so much time in travelling. I have some questions..

Any one have any experience with using a PCP through a hospital?

Mount Sinai IMA
17 East 102 Street
7th Floor
New York, NY 10029

How will insurance work? if for example you go there and they give you a different doctor than your PCP, will you get charged by your insurance for not seeing your pcp?

"How the clinic runs At your first visit, a doctor will be assigned to you as your primary care doctor. All doctors are supervised by a group of senior doctors. *** The name of the doctor on your insurance card will be of one of the senior doctors, and may be different than who is your primary care doctor in the clinic."

Any one have a good PCP they can recommend up by E 96 - E 110

Thanks!

I am thinking about the same thing, Mr. nyc. My Doctor, in Greenwich Village is getting on my nerves...and he's too far.

You must first ascertain your PCP and then make sure any referrals are IN your network and then pay the co-pay for a specialist if you see anyone besides your PCP.

I am finding a lot of "churning" where one doctor shuttles you to another and then another seemingly just to run up insurance charges. I find this practice AWFUL but it seems common.

Sorry, I do not know anything about the Mount Sinai Doctors. I once walked in and spoke to a receptionist and she gave me a sheaf of PCP's names and circled one saying "This guy is really great>" Don't remember his name though.
If you find somebody you like, let me know.

Why not check out the last annual "Best Doctors in NY" issue in either USNews or NYMagazine. Perhaps the lists are online, and then correlate them against your insurance network.

My insurance told me to not bother with them. The PCPs as the hospital are typically lower quality. Personally I prefer Weil Cornell to Mt. Sinai but Weil has nothing in Queens they are only in the City.

Always start with the Physicians listed on your insurance provider network login online or the ones they text to you via phone etc. Then weed them out using Yelp, ZocDoc and Healthgrades.

That being said there are very few PCPs that are good, reliable and available.

^^^ THank You, Turks. She is less than a half mile walk for me. If she takes my insurance, I will give her a try.

this is a relatively new location. I've been here for my eyes consultation. It's pretty quiet, I have no complaints really. Easily accessible by Q or Lex Avenue trains also.
