Everyone moves to NYC for different reasons. I can't really relate to the whole "money-grabbing" mentality and materialism, as money, ultimately, does not bring true happiness. But everyone is different. You're young. You seem very bored in Colorado. I would move. Money's not everything. And life is, indeed, short. Many people who have had much less money than you do move to NYC, and end up okay. I'd rather be happy than have a bunch of money.

OP is in sales. I'm presuming he will have to cover a territory that extends beyond NYC where he will need a car to get to some of those locations. He may also need to bring samples, catalogs, etc. that are difficult to take on public transport. And the hassles and expenses of maintaining a car in NYC are far more onerous than having one in Denver.
