In this unique case the man should not have died regardless of his alcohol or non alcohol content. There are a series of switches that run along the entire length of both sides of the escalator from top to bottom designed to prevent this type of mishap. I believe way back when they called them skirt switches. Years ago ladies in long dresses suffered and died in similar and horrible manners.These switches were installed. Something is amiss. The escalator did not come to an immediate emergency stop when the man's clothing were caught. Some explaining is warranted. A lawsuit will most likely follow.
