Are you that bored?
When someone breaks into your house, are they undocumented house guests?

HA!

Once they get the NYC ID, they are no longer undocumented.

Simple.

They're now legal NYC residents with same rights as citizens (voting, housing, jobs, driving, food stamps, etc).

Sorry but no, that is not entirely correct.

That some kind of piece of paper cannot override federal nor state laws regarding what is required identification.

Holders of that NYC ID card cannot vote in state or local elections unless already previously entitled. They cannot obtain a NYS drivers license again unless they meet state requirements.

Federally chartered banks by and large will not accept them either. NYC had to lean hard upon NYS chartered banks and credit unions to take those ID cards, and still only a handful (if that) do.

Yeah. I can attest to that. Am not going to bother to renew mine. It was a hassle getting it the first time.
Drivers License or Passport is the way to go when it comes to legitimate ID.

I used it for its memberships to cultural institutions, and perks from those memberships, and then that membership also came with special membership renewal rates which I also used.

Other than that, the only time I've used it is once for a bar out of state and as a library card as I had it linked to my account (good for New York, Brooklyn, and Queens library systems). Supposedly there are other things it's good for, but never had it come into play.

Oh, I didn't know you could link it to your library accounts.
Thanks for the website link. I have to check that out and it's other benefits.
