Why would you say that ? Cubans and Puerto Ricans in my experience are not that diferent. I grew up with Cubans in the Bronx. My sisters maiden of honor was Cuban and that family held out hope I would marry a niece of theirs. Cubans may be more likely to be Republicans and PRs Democrats but until recently that was not a divisive issue. We used to talk about the diferences and try to elaborate on them. Nothing that significant. I am sure people will begin to point out issues they feel are significant now.
I didn't realize there were many Cubans in the Bronx.
I thought most of the Cubans who moved here came to Florida.
Are the Cubans in the Bronx also mostly white, like many/most of the Cubans in Florida?
Of course it maybe seen as offensive to someone Black who is Ecuadorian in NYC if people automatically assume they are Dominican. Not every Black person who speaks Spanish is Dominican. Not even most.
True enough.
For example, there are a lot of black Panamanians in NYC
Well I don't take the time to look at every person and assign them a specific nationality, but when I decide to guess I usually get it right or come close at least.
People assume things about me all the time and I don't really care because how are they supposed to know my background?
Me too.
I get taken for both Russian, and Puerto Rican
(I'm Ashkenazi Jewish)
Now how often do Puerto Ricans and Dominicans look like Desi people from the subcontinent ? That happens very often. And I mean light skinned and dark skin ones.
Me too.

Of course Russia has a lot of Jews. Lots of people of Spanish or Portuguese descent are part Jewish. Not sure it’s much of a mistake when as an Ashkenazi who share some common ancestry with those people. Even if it’s centuries back.
New York doesn’t have a large noticeable Cuban population. Florida does.
That was my impression too.
