Can anyone tell me......
If 280 west 34th street is a safe neighbourhood? Are there any nearby subway stops and what amenities are nearby..e.g shops restaurants?

That's a purely shopping street. You have Conway, a leather clothes store, the Bag Man, a handbag/luggage store, a Starbucks, a K Mart, to name a few. There's tne Tick Tock diner inside the New Yorker hotel on 34th and 8th and a Wendy's and a fast food greek place on 7th. The 1,2 and 3 trains are on 7th, the A,E and C on 8th

it is also close to the chelsea pj's...there are like 5-6 building pj's around this area...becareful when u walk at nite.

i dont know what henna saying and dont care...but just to summarize im a local new yorker all my life...so i do generally know about something in nyc...and the op ask if it is safe in the neighhborhood...so all im pointing to him is about the pjs in the vincinity...if he wants to take my advice or not is up to him...but all im pointing out is the fact. u can walk thru these pj's in the daytime..but i would not recommend it at the nite time if u know what i mean.
