I always thought that there was some method to the madness where if you pressed more floors while in the elevator that that would trick it into believing that more people are in it than exists and thus get the door to close. I'm sticking with that theory too.

The thing is, I could swear the elevator close button works. Each time I press it, the door does indeed close.
(I know for a fact, the open button works). Maybe on older models, the close button is not just for show.
I'm sticking to that theory.
