In College I worked full time at a Law firm 25 years ago. I sorted mail, took the mail to the attorneys, faxes, and drafts of legal documents. I also made delieveries outside. Have these jobs been eliminated with the proliferation of the internet and fax ?
I know that a former co-worker (without a higher education and who is foreign born) got a job in more recent years at the United Nations as a mailroom clerk.
They still exist, there's just not a lot of mail to deliver. But they do still send and receive packages, fedex, courier messengers. They also set up conference rooms, do light maintenance, etc.

You had to watch out for them more than the cars when traversing Midtown. A lot of them had their own warning cries as they sped past you. Every once in a while one would cream some pedestrian or himself get whomped by a car and go flying.
I guess they have gone to that special Valhalla occupied by milkmen, phone center ladies, and those 5 guys at Texaco who dressed like DEVO and ran up to your car like an Indy 500 pit crew.
Cab drivers beware. The computer modem has fired its first shot across the hood with the medallion.
