Bonkers pricing.

Even with bonkers pricing, it would've made a lot more sense if Phase 1 and 2 were combined, but we split it.

3 new stations and provisions for an expansion into the Bronx. Pricing is still crazy.

I LOL @ the 2029 projected completion date. You know it will end up closer to 2040 than 2030.

And no way it ends up being only $6 billion. By 2029, that $6 billion figure will look real good compared to the actual final cost.

I assume the people of the Upper East Side will push for it to be done no matter what the price.

Then they might as well start on Phases 2-4. Why bother doing it piecemeal if they are going to have such cost overruns?

Subways lines are a lot cheaper to build in Barcelona and Spain in general because they do not build huge station caverns. They just use a huge tunnel boring machine to build the entire life. Platforms are built on the side, and a small station is built overhead. The Second Avenue Subway line on the UES has huge mezzanines and that is what made it cost so much, and what made it take as long as it did, as the tunnel boring happened comparatively FAST.

Really, don't build the big mezzanines and what they are spending on Phase 2 could be applied to Phases 2-4.

Of course you don't have the contracts up for competitive bidding. If they brought in European or Asian contractors for the actual construction this could be done so much more cheaply.
