Hi There!

I have a big piece of property and would like to expand my house to match the homes around me (further back a little bit).

I know that we will need an architect etc. but I have a question regarding the DOB Process.

When the inspector comes, will he/she ONLY inspect this construction or will they go through the rest of the house? The reason I ask is that their were some things done to the house that do not have a permit.

They're only supposed to inspect what's on the plans, but if they happen to notice something awry, you could get in trouble.

Pay the inspector off, $500 will do the trick.

Inspector will only inspect work that is on the plans. The exception is if the work involves part of an existing part that may have been grandfathered in but now requires code compliance because of the new work. So if for example your stairway is too narrow and you're putting in a window, he can order you to widen the whole stupid stairway or whatever. You don't have to worry about the non-permitted work unless it's blatantly obvious new work that stands out
