Hmm...these were definitely not locals as I would know them if they were, or others would know them. They were what I would call a Hipster...they were generally fitting the description....they did have the odd clothes....and were hiding their hair/faces as much as possible so as not to be noticed....not ghetto though...there was a big difference.
Either way it was something I immediately noticed but nobody really cared...I did not really care either.

Mario have you seen the way a lot of inner city kids dress these days. They are dressing pretty "fruity." They copped some of their ideas from hipsters.

The way a lot of these kids in the inner city dress today is like a mixture of the skate culture, hipsters, and retro 80's fashions, with a bit of a hood twist to it. Baggy jeans are becoming are becoming less and less popular.

Well these are teenage kids usually who wear "throwbacks" like sneakers from the 80's/90's and what not. The sneakers are usually colorful so they match their pants and shirt with it. The pants could be completely red, blue, green etc....and they wear them painfully tight. Same with the shirt. They usually complement this with a hat, again with a matching color and many also wear glasses.
The end result is a kid with a variety of different colors or sometimes one color, with tight clothing and hats and glasses. Looks like something out of the 1980's...hence the "retro kid" title. Alot of kids are doing it but its not really a fad yet. Looks really funny too me.

I have not seen this in my particular corner of Mott Haven....around here the fashion has been unchanged for the most part for about 20 years...typical urban wear...I dont see any of the retro attire at all.

Ahh...I don't think this is anymore embarrassing than the 10x too big pants, 10x too big t-shirts, du-rags, and accessories you typically see around here. I actually would not mind this as much..as the clothes actually are only 1/4 as large as the typical hoodwear...so at least it remotely fits them.
By the way..this is the clothing I saw on the Hipsters I saw at my Bodega..except they had the hood over their heads trying to not to be noticed.
