Lol.....okay then..let's just stick to generalizations and stereotypes. But make sure you are consistent: Domincans = Drug Dealers/Criminals, PRs = Criminals/Ghetto, Jews = Greedy, Evil etc. You either subscribe to generalization/stereotypes or you don't....there are many who believe these stereotypes to be far more true than the Hipsters = self-absorbed...so I guess everyone is right with their stereotypes.

Guy if you really want to believe I go around stereotyping everyone, then go ahead. I still think that comparing a Race, a sexuality (Gay people by in large are born that way), or an ethnic group, to a subculture is extremely flawed reasoning.
For the record I didn't say Hispters have no right to move in anywhere, that I hated them. I didn't say anything like that. I made a comment about how funny I thought it was that people are going out of the their way to defend Hipsters when Hipsters are too busy checking out the latest band or fixing their hair. That's what they are into. Just like extreme Right-Wingers are into trolling forums and the latest Ann Coulter book, or Fanboys are into comic books and the latest Batman movie.

True...but for me its more about stopping the nonsense of hating and its the mentality/justifications that are used to despise or otherwise be hostile towards en entire group of people that has striking similarities to the same hostility shown towards the usual targets. There is always a reason that seems good/valid to hate someone or a group....and lately the Hipsters are at the top of the list. I am just trying to clarify why they are the latest group...and I have heard some good insights..and a whole bunch of the usual ignorant/stereotypical hate speech unfortunately.
I don't think you hate them though...but there seems to be alot of open hostility towards them...and everyone has an opinion about who they are, what they want, etc. They must feel so special as everyone seems to have an opinion about them. The way I see it...I am literally surrounded by the thugs/ghetto subculture..and my area in Mott Haven is STARVED for new faces, whether it be Hipsters, Yuppies, Asians, Indians, Argentinians, Arabs, Artists, Clowns, Acrobats, Crab Fisherman, or Ghost Hunters! The area has been strangled by the ghetto subculture for far too long, and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon..so what's wrong with adding new people to mix things up and keep it "fresh" and "real." That's my perspective.

As opposed to: "people of color who are more respectable because they stick to the projects in East New York...they know their place." Furthermore, you believe that somehow those that look, dress and act similar to eachother in areas like Williamsburg are somehow uniquely laughable and generic. Yet you give the free pass to all those thugs/hoodlums dressed in their even more laughable baggy FUBU pants, 10x too large Sean John shirts, and durags..and yes they all look, act, and sound the same. How is this not laughable and generic? Why is one viewed negatively by you and not the other? They try their best to be as ignorant and sound as ghetto as the next guy....versus as creative/philosophical as those that you detest in Williamsburg.
You also believe that these white-bread Americans are somehow wrong for wanting to live in NYC for anything less than a lifetime. I did not realize we had to sign 99 year leases to live in this city, and it was only for those that shun Starbucks and prefer the soothing ambience of blaring merengue at the Bodega or the delicacies of the Fried Chicken Shack. What exactly is wrong with having a cup of coffee from a place you like? Or shopping at Target?
Many of the people I see in my community DO NOT CARE about anything, let alone the community..so cut the BS that they are all helpless victims and life is paradise before new people arrived. There are TOO MANY that prefer to be criminals, low-lives, and do not care about anything...that is the reality...and that's largely due to the isolation and segregation that has occured in this city, and that people like you who shun those from your community that do not submit/accept the established ghetto subculture.
It seems to me that your hate of "Hipsters" is no different than the ignorant hate people of color. Same hypocritical logic and superficial justifications...which I already knew...I was hoping for some insight as to why they are viewed as a problem, but I keep getting lame excuses....

Guy, great point. An offshoot of DITC's mentality is that a black MBA holder from Atlanta now working on Wall Street is entitled to live in say Fort Greene whereas their Italian or Puerto Rican secretary who grew up in Williamsburg just down the road is NOT.

Ogden...there are some interesting people on this site...at the very least they keep things interesting and provide some insight into the views/thought processes of some in our society.

What I don't like about these Yuppies and Hipsters is that they're cultureless. People in New York such as the Italians, Irish, Russians, Arabs, Albanians, Hispanics, Blacks, Asians, etc are very into their ethnic backrounds. Yuppies and Hipsters are boring beyond belief in that department.

You complain about this ghetto subculture in your neighborhood. Why dont you just move out of Mott Haven then? I mean this isnt Riverdale, its MOTT HAVEN whatd you expect to be neighbors with a bunch of young republicans wearing argyle??

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Finally someone sees my point. Its not about hate, nobody hates hipsters and yuppies. Its just many of us like to live in an ethnic enclave and hang out in other ethnic enclaves. We are friends with people of all colors shapes and sizes, we just like to preserve our cultures and our ancestry. Thats what interests me, the many people I know, and believe it or not many NY tourists. That is why tourists who are more informed are now more curious about Arthur Ave than Mulberry St because Mulberry St is more "integrated" and bland and Arthur Ave (even with the few Albanian businesses) is much more interesting.

One time I was showing an apartment in the EV and I went to lunch on 2nd Ave at a Hindu restaurant called Balochi's
They were playing some loud funny sounding indian music, and I could not hear myself.
Anyways these two guys who I think are gay walked in. This one guy had this big black thing one inch in Diameter stuck in his Ear Loaf, so his ear was just deformed, but I guess he thinks it looks cool and chicke (or shick or whatever )
Plus the waitress did not have the classic NYC, to-the-point, no-time-to-waste, get-them-in-get-them-out attitude that I was use to getting. She was hanging out in the back far, far away.
So I had no choice but to speak up to get her attention, and had to do it several times. At the same time I am on the phone trying to make RE Deals, and I have to talk kinda loud because I was being drowned out by some indian music
Well this guy with the big black disc in his ear gets frustrated at me for disturbing his trance and turns to me raises his arms to signal a touchdown and tells me to "Please can you lower it"
Geez I cant talk loud in a NYC Restaurant anymore. What gives? It used to be you just talk louder.

What culture would you like third, fourth, and fifth generation, American born, white people to flaunt? What is someone who is essentially a "mutt" supposed to do to proudly proclaim their culture? What IS their culture?
Ethnic minorites and "purebreeds" who hang on to every bit of their culture while remaining insular and ambivalent to what else is out there could learn a thing or two from these much maligned hipsters who are not the close minded a$$holes that you make them out to be.
It's amazing to me how many ignorant people there are on this board who want to demonize every white newcomer to this city based on the way they dress, the music they listen to, and the neighborhoods in which they can afford to live.
Unbelieveable.
