Not a guy, but I know the area well, and you're right.
Still, it is a public housing project, no matter how you cut it.

nostrand houses 6 floors
gravesend houses 7 floors
armstrong houses has 3, 6 and 7 floors
Borinquen houses, 7 floors
Marlboro houses, 7 floors and 14 floors
anything in SI, 6 or 7 floors
So, yes, there are quite a few of projects that are not all towering buildings. Theres a stark difference from what i see daily in brooklyn, and the towers i see daily in manhattan. ( i rarely if ever go to the bronx or queens)

The ones I lived in in Queens were 7 floor buildings, not very tall...

So the PJs are tame, hmm? Good news!
But ... not Far Rockaway ... those PJs are legendary for the violence and criminality of their residents. Red Fern, Hammels, Edgemere, etc.
You should fear for your life in the PJs in Far Rockaway. That includes if you carry a handgun! All of them. Also Ocean Village, which is not a PJ per se, but full of the same clientele.

I have never seen 6 story projects either. The ones closest to me are huge...16 stories (Sedegwick houses)....and the claremont projects range from 16-24 stories...and this is the Bronx.

Harlem has some high rise PJs too! But I don't know how many stories though....

My absolute favorites are the Polo Grounds. I dont know if they are considered bad but they are huge!
Also since I am a baseball historian, the name is nostalgic and will always be linked with the legendary stadium of the then NY Giants.

Polo Grounds sounds like a private community somewhere in Greenwhich....what a difference a name makes versus Patterson Houses or Morrisania Consolidation.

Yeah...it used to be a baseball stadium. You had Yankee stadium and the Polo grounds right across the river from each other.
Ebbets Field was also a stadium and now are projects.
If they decide to tear down Yankee Stadium and make projects there it would be called Yankee Stadium. But I think they are making it into 3 little league fields.
