I’m sure the demographics for that area in 1918 don’t reflect the demographics of the area today so the survey was a waste of time.

The only relevant demographic is “working class”. If you have an obsession with another made up class, you’re part of the problem.

"Motorman" Luciano was a dispatcher, pressed into service in a role in which he had limited experience due to a labor dispute; When he took a curve too fast, sme ofthe older wooden cars were thrown against a line of upright steel beams, which went through the rolling stock like slicing bread.

The reports of victims electrocuted by third rail are true, but probably embellished due to the horrific nature of the accident; it is possible to come in contact with a live third rail -- but not that easy -- until some of it was torn loose from its anchors and shielding.

If there is a redeeming feature to this sad story, it's that most of the carnage would be less likely due to a century of progress in safety measures. It is hard to die on a train -- of any variety.
