There are still Goodwill and salvation army store around.

Best thing I habe found are blue levis jean, blazers, and some speakers to build my wall of sound.

Good place to get an older camcorder . Hi8 or 8mm tapes can only be played on these.

Bookshelves and wood furniture does offer the occasional score.

Check out woodside,queens.

I always purchase my books for social readings from thrift stores. All the NY times best sellers, made into a motion picture, popular autobiographies were had for $2-$4.

I have found lovely paintings, mirrors, side tables baskets for dirt cheap at thrift stores. I thoroughly clean them, paint and change the handles where appropriate. Go to the thrift shops found in the nicer suburbs.

I found a thrift store that seems to get in a lot of new items from catalog stores, TV, and dept stores with tags still on. It all started when I noticed this thrift store that always had a jam packed parking lot. We drove by it for years making jokes about how they must have gambling in the back or were selling illegal drugs. One day we decided to stop. Now I am addicted, plus I like the treasure hunt aspect.

The thrift stores here aren't that great. Many of them are cramped, dirty and don't have a lot of stuff out.

When I've gone to stores outside of the city, they are often clean, enormous and have tons of stuff.

I cannot remember the last time I went to a thrift store. I think there was a place in Brooklyn (downtown) that we had donated stuff to and then stopped inside to look around---that must've been at least five years ago already.
