All you deblasio haters, please give him a break...he is just trying to help even the gap between the minorities and the majorities...he might be approaching it wrongly, but he is well meant to tackle this persisting problem. stop personal attacking him. if you thought you were all so good and competent, why don't you run for public service positions to rectify what is going wrong?

No he's not. Now Asians are majorities? Ethnic white immigrants from Eastern Europe are majorities? I went through both the public and private school system here in NYC so can speak to this from a unique perspective. Sticking unqualified AA's with smart kids isn't going to help them and NEVER has. I've been watching this movie since the early 1970s when I was in grade school. What will help AA's is making sure their parents are employed and making a living so they will be more inclined to push their kids to be their best. It all starts at home.

Most of the whites and Asians in public high schools aren't rich. The Asian kids are child of immigrants. The white kids are also child of Eastern European immigrants from Russia, Ukraine, etc. If DeBlasio wanted to stick it to rich entitled white snobby kids, then he would have to aim for private schools, which he has no power in. So it is basically Latin American kids and African American kids and West Indies kids getting a boost over White kids and Asian kids.

I am not the person you were responding to, but here is just some of my proposals:

1. expand Bloomberg's youth employment program. Require city unions, who receive all these goodies from the city already, to enroll some of these young adult males into apprenticeships. Get them busy and off the streets.
2. tie benefits (including any type of subsidized housing) with work, so that you don't get benefits just by sitting on your a** and gain some work experience instead.
3. subsidize pre-k and afterschool programs for all low income kids, not based on skin color quotas.
4. educate low income women on family planning, perhaps have "personal finance" and "family planning" courses in high school along with sex ed.
5. expand charter and specialized schools, not shut them down. No one can compete with immigrant Asians, so instead of instituting quotas based on skin color for the same number of limited slots, increase the opportunity by increasing the number of slots available so that other people can get in.
6. De-regulate housing and convert it to market rate. Some people, especially poor, would be better off moving to a different lower cost city. Instead, they are tied to their "good deal affordable housing" and do not move. This also causes imbalances in the total labor pool, as people who should be moving to lower COL cities for lower wage jobs instead stay in high COL cities struggling with the same low wage pay. Its not like these low wage jobs are some specialized jobs only available in NYC. People are struggling in NYC working in McDonalds or H&M or whatever paying $1,500/mo for "affordable" housing, while they can get the same exact job in Wilkes-Barre, 2 hours away from NYC, and pay $350/mo rent. These housing subsidies are just corporate welfare, so that the corps that offer low wage jobs can recruit from the labor pool of poor people who are stuck living in an expensive city.
7. Expand subway access in outer boroughs. TriboroRX should be a priority. This would give more opportunities to lower working class to get to more jobs and expand their area of job search and also reduce commute times so that working parents can spend more time with their kids.
8. Lower or eliminate income taxes for anyone making less than $50k a year. Offset the loss of this revenue by not housing homeless for $400 per night at Times Square.
9. Eliminate need to be licensed for dog walking, hair braiding, and other bunch of useless licensing regulations (LLC newspaper publishing reqs), so that more motivated working poor can hustle and make more $$$ on legit side gigs on the books.

The only thing Bla Bla Bla DeBlazio needs broken is his pen so
he can stop signing off on his ridiculous socialist initiatives.
He is setting this city back to the 70's.........................

As far as running for office, changing of the guard will not rectify the problems inert to New York.
City Council is aware of the problems of its diminishing blue collar work force based revenue and has
decided to gamble by introducing higher wage white collar paying opportunities to eventually jack up its
revenue stream. This is why high rises are being constructed where commercial blue collar businesses once
stood. Long Island City is a perfect example. The politicians are playing a game of dice for the survival of this city
and its herd of free loaders. They better hope they don't end up crapping out.

Want to be a fly on the wall when their precious Nash, Tyler, Liam, Olivia, Jacob or Emma doesn't make the cut because some "unqualified" kid is pushed in instead.

Leave us be clear; BdeB didn't do anything that those Park Slope parent's did not want, well at least large enough of a majority.

It was *their* plan that mayor and his some kind of school's chancellor latched onto. So leave them have what they want, just don't go trying to force that hot mess onto others.

Why is it the coloureds always need "help"?

This country was turned upside down starting in the 1960's with various civil rights/anti discrimination laws meant to favor, protect, advance, or whatever minorities especially blacks.

Fast forward over fifty years and people are *still* moaning. At some or what point does personal responsibility for oneself and children ever take hold?

Asian kids go to the same public schools as minority kids, and somehow, somehow they manage to obtain grades that get them into top high schools and onto college. Asian kids usually within in one generation become members of the professional classes (doctors, lawyers, etc...), yet somehow we are continuously told that AA kids have to push their way into "better" schools, and or need *more* money for their own local.
