If I were to pick up and move to New York, where should I live, and why? Obviously, I prefer a safe area, easy access to public transporation. Rent can't exceed $1600/mo.

So, where do you live, and why would you advise anyone to move there, or NOT to move there? Thanks much.

Unless you are Hasidic, don't look in Boro Park.

Just... don't.

Too many new buildings with new people in my ever-more-crowded neighborhood. I know you'd be a good neighbor, but pls look elsewhere.

Van Cortlandt Village, Bronx. Has everything a person looks for in a neighborhood. Diversity, decent commute to Manhattan, trees. You might be bored out of your mind, however, as there isn't much to do in the neighborhood.

I gotta a betta place than VCV in the bronx

Washington Heights or as I refer to it Wash Hi (i dont know, the name is too long to type)

Anyways it is in manhattan, and close enough to midtown and downtown where the rooms are not small, but rather large, and the prices are not that high. Anywhere else in Manhattan those sizes would cost an arm and a leg.

Another plus is the amenities around are still pretty cheap. You can live frugally and still be in Manhattan, and it is not as bad as people want you to believe.

I thought Dyckman Street west of Broadway was really nice when i went shopping for a bicycle recently. On the corner I saw a diner restaurant, a type of restaurant you rarely see these days (kind of early/mid 70's looking), very villagy looking
