MIT undergraduate student body entering Fall 2017 is only 33% white. Also 45% of student body is female. So if you're going to concoct scenarios, at least try to make them a little more rooted in reality.
And despite this tech is disproportionately white male. Explain this.
Look at Google. They are building more campus in NYC without any of the deals that Amazon received.
Which is why Amazon should be made to deal with NYC socio economic problems whereas Google has little obligation to do so. If Amazon gets tax benefits then they need to help to resolve the socio economic and macro problems that NYC has.
TL;DR is basically that Google quietly took over the block and subtly made their presence known in Chelsea, rather than going about it the way that Amazon did. Does not mean that there aren't people opposed to Google's presence but it does show how they keep the drama down to a minimum.
Google has also done some damage within that neighborhood so the lessons aren't all positive. Local businesses are complaining/
this is ridiculous. There is no law that says that. Amazon was offered a deal with no such strings attached. Amazon probably won't come to NYC if they are required to solve the social problems. This is government's job, not Amazon's

What City Council should be doing is justifying their existence by coming up with a raft of demands that Amazon should comply with in exchange for tax credits.
Why would Amazon do that or comply? It is not a private company's job to solve some city's social problems. That is government job. Amazon can just pack up and leave to some other city, they are not tied to NYC. Those tax credits are not coming out of New Yorkers... they are coming out of Amazon. If Amazon doesn't come, the city would miss $27 billion in taxes instead of $3 billion.

Texas does not have the exorbitant taxes compared to NYC. If we had the same low taxes, we would not have to give any companies any incentives, they would flock here by themselves.
NYC is ridiculous in taxing. look at the property tax, city tax, etc. to give Amazon tax credits is just to make NYC comparable to other locations.
