Has anyone had a chance to see the most recent South Park episode? Its basically prediction of what will come from Amazon and them jobs. Although a crude humor show, they have predicted many events, like a magic genie.
NYC is not Seattle and the dumb City Council people can insist that the mayor and the governor extract benefits for city residents in exchange for tax CREDITs.
Also people need to stop their ignorance. If Amazon doesn't come they (or their employees) will not pay taxes, so there will be no tax credits. In other words this $3BN that some salivate over will NOT EXIST!
I suggest that City Council passes a regulation that unless someone has had some job experience in the PRIVATE sector they shouldn't run for office.
The latest is banning cashless businesses because poor people in high end restaurants and yuppie vegan restaurants.
I think that City Council should be abolished just as some suggest that the Public Advocate position should be.
Interesting that polls indicate that nonwhites might be less hostile to Amazon than the SJW whites. Turns out that they would prefer City Council to focus on what Amazon guarantees in terms of job training, and employment of city residents. The SJW hypocrites do all their shopping on Amazon I bet.
The City Council is just screaming because they were entirely left out of this deal and there is nothing they can do to stop it.
The City Council does not need to be abolished. It could use better members. Due to the current polarization in the US it will be hard to get more rational people in office.
The city and state will quite clearly have deals with other companies, and again the city council will be left out.

The City Council is right to show some concern. For 3 billion in tax credits existing NYC residents better get priority. Graduates of NYC colleges better get priority. NYCHA residents should also be prioritized as a part of Amazon sincerely reaching out to communities of color and people of all ages. If it’s just going to be MIT and Stanford types imported in we should not care at all.

If it’s just going to be Young white male MIT and Stanford types imported in we should not care at all, as most New Yorkers wouldn’t be getting anything but riding rent. Perhaps drama from the city council can actually make Amazon recruit a diverse crowd. And actually be a corporation that has positive effects on the city.

LOL. Why would Amazon hire NYC and NYCHA residents?? You can't force a corporation to do that. They are going to hire the best and those people will come from all over the USA and the World.

MIT undergraduate student body entering Fall 2017 is only 33% white. Also 45% of student body is female. So if you're going to concoct scenarios, at least try to make them a little more rooted in reality.

NYCHA residents specifically, that’s unlikely but the response to Amazons RFP was posted online and one of the things they ask about is diversity of the city and spefically diversity within the city’s tech sector.
The diversity responses start on page 3 and prove very interesting. Especially when questions are asked, and NYC responds, about what it’s doing to grow talent in the sector and increase its diversity.
I read through NYC’s proposal response. It’s really, really good. By “good” I mean the answers are strong and comprehensive. It leaves little questions as to why NYC won. I’d love to see DCs and Nashville’s responses too.
