Do explain. Are all jobs deserving of $30/hour? Which ones?
Why $30/hr? Why not make it $100/hr so we can all be rich?

According to this article, federal minimum wage should be just about $20.

I tacked on a bit extra because NYC is so much more expensive than the rest of the country (except for maybe San Francisco).

When people use pointed language in an attempt to argue as you have done, this information goes in one ear and out the other though. Sad.

Absolutely agree. Well done.
The word choice has power. Lots of it.
Only those with some equity can use that word with little restraint.
To gain this equity one must work day in and out like a dog.................
Unfortunately some are content living the life of a muck in the mire...............

Thats good, but my point is expect costs for goods and services to go up with the new minimum wage. That affects everyone, not just McDonalds.

$15/hr fight for 15 is all BS not kept up with inflation or cost of living for decades. The political snake oil of the left. It's like when ur boss announces a 50% bonus increase or 7% raise, then weeks later:

Healthcare went up 15% for some reason cause HR changed plans
Metro card increases to $3 per ride
Metro-north lol needs no mention really
Corn beef canned food goes from $6 to $8
Milk $3 and yogurt $1.70 now except yoplait
Internet premium plan expires and now internet bill $70 instead of $40
Oh and lets not forget rent really sucks if lived in Bronx 2017-2018 rent went up %28

On a bright note, this will lift every on the book worker out of poverty on paper.
It's gonna look great when its time to run for office.
And the paper trail is now in motion.
(Nice job there Mikey and Billy).

It is a very sad picture in New York.
One needs to make at least $30 bucks an hour to rent an apartment.
Buckle up. The free ride will soon be over for free loaders.
Those who aren't cutting the mustard better add more working hours
to their schedule or throw in the towel and head for the hills.
We are living in Z nation.
Eat or be eaten.

so in other words, numbers pulled out of thin air, to put it politely.
at what point do low skilled labor (i.e. fast food workers) get automated by machines? at whatever point that is, all that's need are a couple of people to operate a McD's, and then you'd have a ton of people out of work.

bleeding heart leftists and their utopian dreams where everyone gets paid some unsustainable hourly wage... smh...

it's only a matter of time...

what moronic leftists don't understand, or don't care about, is as wages are artificially increased, either:
  • hours decrease/headcount reduced
  • jobs become automated
  • businesses close
govt is basically using legalized extortion to tell a business owner how much he should pay an employee, as if it weren't already hard enough to keep a business afloat.

Don't have kids if you can't afford them.
And yet, we are not suppose to set our minimum wage at or right below the cutoff for raising a family, and therefore preventing anyone making the minimum from having a family.

I'm not knocking any employment just the city that is so out of touch................
In a skilled trade or vocation you must meet continuous requirements.
You must sacrifice 4 years of vocational training day in and day out all on your dime.
You must continue the ongoing education just to keep your job.
There are city tests you must pass just to maintain your position and even more if you want to advance.
If you fail any of these courses you are out................
It's no different than being in the military.
Military PT must meet the minimum physical regardless of age, years of service or you are out.
Not many people know this. Not many people care to know this.
With more money comes that much more responsibility not less.
I started from these no nothing jobs as many others, and worked my way into a career.
So can everybody else but it comes at a very high cost. You are not handed $30 bucks just because you are nice.
There is a huge, huge difference between skilled and non skilled trade.
Skilled trades are much harder than tending bar, washing dishes, serving food, packing or working a register.
If you don't mind minimal wage going to $15 an hour then don't mind skilled trades starting at $45............
With higher wages comes higher prices and eventually more layoffs as bosses condense work responsibilities
on to others just to keep competitive and without loss of profit. This happens across all fields of employment.
As a matter of fact I'm all for $15 an hour for minimum wage and won't be surprised if the skilled trades make
demands for higher pay soon. Just don't cry when your grocery prices double or triple................
If you so called "skilled" workers are worth more than you should go ahead and demand more money regardless of what the people below you are making. The worth of "skilled" workers is not determined by how much the people below you make. Someone below you getting raise does not mean higher ups deserve one too.

You personally may not feel it is fair, but owners can just as easily replace you as they can people below you.
