lol, short term money instead of long term solutions. You can't make this stuff up.
I know. The MTA is in trouble because it never made long term fixes. They are worse then dealing with than toddlers. They never learn, at least kids eventually do.
Not to mention the massive economic damage this would cause . I'm glad Cuomo stopped the L train shutdown.
The J and M cannot absorb all those extra commuters. Nor would taking the G to Court Square to connect to the already overcrowded, E, M, and 7 trains work.
The Williamsburg, Greenpoint LIC dumbo corridor has hosts nyc talented work force. Majority of such people are not from nyc and crafted outside of the city. The shutdown of the L train would have hurt plenty businesses in nyc that depends on the transient talented work force that moved here in the past 10 years.
As for the carnasie tubes? Just patch work bandaid and suspend the cables in the walls is the best option. Closing down the station over night and weekends would be better option. Besides Williamsburg residence can still party in thier own neighborhood.

Well off people work and that’s the problem. During weekdays they need to get to their jobs in Manhattan!
So with the new way of doing this, why not keep it shut down and finish the job in a half the time/months. If they are just doing it weeknights and weekends for 15 months, since people already planned for the shut down. Quick math would tell me if its a 15 month full time should cut 15 months down to 7 months. Just get it done with.
Would they shutdown the 4, 5, and 6 trains for a few months or any of the Manhattan trunk lines for a new months? No. Northwestern Brooklyn has become powerful Cuomo himself stepped in. So the work will have to be done off peak hours, just like it would be in Manhattan.

That is sooooo overblown it's not even funny. People act like all those commuters would stop working in Manhattan and everyone would abandon billyburg. If the L closed for a year people would definitely find a way to get there. The JMZ trains aren't much further, there are buses bikes and walking across the bridge, you can take the G to the 7, and there's ferry service.

It would be massive economic damage to the developers who have overpriced everything in Williasmburg.
They can only charge 2900 for a 1 bedroom instead of 3000 now? Poor them
Some units dropped by several hundred. And yeah, even the ones losing $100/month are probably crying and trying to bribe anyone they can to protect their precious income. Because all they care about are their own bank accounts, not the actual citizens of the city.

I have no sympathy, they're still gonna get high rents even with a full L train shutdown.
