Its not like that at all anymore. That movie was representative of a long time ago. The areas west and south of that neighborhood are some of the worst in the city. People in general dont hang outside like they used to.

so just to clarify, you are saying that it's WORSE now than it was before in the movie?
Well the specific area in the movie, Belmont (which is where your hospital is located) isn't so bad. This is only because it contains Arthur Ave which is a big tourist grab with all of the Little Italy stores and restaurants.
However the neighborhoods surrounding Belmont are pretty bad.
EDIT: I noticed that I didn't really answer the question. Definitely, yes I would say things are worse today than they were 40-50 years ago in that area.
