Hudson Yards might be a disaster. "one-bedroom apartments will rent for at least $5,200 a month" All those luxury buildings on top of each other. Office, retail, restaurants, and residential. Right next to the highline. It will be a tourist zoo. Why would you want to live inside that??

NYC needs to invest on its nightlife.

Amazon is so stupid. Amazon could have clearly moved into Hudson yards space and rented out one of the buildings for long term rent deal. Or even buy one of the buildings from related.

Nothing is stopping Amazon from renting space from one of those buildings or buying them now......

Absolutely nothing.

Amazon is almost certainly expanding in NYC and the Tri-State Area regardless

Exactly. The only thing that screwed them up was the stupid H2 contest they designed to extract more tax breaks from municipalities.

Mind you even before this they were already expanding in NYC and the tri-state area. Only in the future they will do like Google and buy buildings and buyout leases. And not try to cut the state legislature out of the loop.

I've read the commercial space is already either leased or under agreement for leasing once completed. To bring 25,000 Amazon jobs would have meant re-zoning for additional development.

They had the agreement. They should have stuck to their guns and made NYS/C perform on it.

Politicians can always make your life Hell, regardless of any deals. If NY wanted to demonstrate that Amazon wasn't wanted, bailing before they'd made any major investment was exactly the right thing for them to do.
