It's almost a done deal; now that the Mouth of Albany (Andrew Cuomo) is behind the scheme of his spendthrift, bleeding heart liberal democrats who control Albany.

I’m fine with this. Rich Russians and other foreigners who buy up property just to let it sit empty and be a storage of wealth have killed places like the Village. Half the apartments sit empty, killing the vibe of the neighborhood. And around those new mega buildings? The streets are dead.

Yea, I’m for this, but how about clawing back some of those billions spent upstate on pet projects that were rife with corruption? Or money awarded to companies that paid off convicted former politicans? Can we get money back from both the companies who paid people off and the people who were paid off? Is there any actual law that allows for this? Those would be great revenue generators! Even better than taxes!

And why shouldn't they pay taxes when ordinary NYers do. Many of these buildings benefitted from all sorts of tax credits and incentives.

They already pay a lot of taxes. This pied-a-terre tax is on top of the sales and property taxes that's already in effect.

All this will do is drive investment money that NYC were getting to other cities.

The socialists running NYC are like the pretty (but not really all that) girl who thinks she is hot stuff. She starts putting on all types of demands on guys. She will find out quickly she isn't as hot as she thinks she is while the guys go for other girls that are not as demanding and stuck up.

NYC is just one of many cities in the U.S., many with much better weather, scenery and living conditions than NYC. Cities like Paris and London are the only game in town in their respective countries so they can afford to be high tax.

A good example is Hong Kong. Hong Kong was the absolute only way for foreign companies to go to if you wanted to do business in China back in the 90's. Hong Kong grew rich and influential. Fast forward to the 2010's and companies are bypassing Hong Kong entirely and went directly to the Guangzhou's, Shanghai's and Beijings and now Hong Kong is no longer a big deal and has lost a lot of its luster.

Of course the Leftist ruining...I mean...running NYC needs to learn this lesson first hand.
