I wasn’t a fan of Uber, until my recent travels forced me so. For those of you not aware, lga is undergoing a big transformation, hopefully for the better. But while it is ongoing, it causes a huge mess to and from lga. I used to take yellow cabs just to support those struggling drivers. Now, when you get out of the airport you have to ride a shuttle bus for 5-10 min to a designated taxi area. I did it twice and found out that i spent twice amount of time as well as $$ to get home. I have now switched to uber, which you can hop on for a ride with literally no waiting time in the parking garage at a fixed rate.I wonder who the genius was to come up with this idea to put yellow cabs in such a disadvantaged situation to worsen their situation.

How many of you have abandoned yellow cabs for the same reason?

Taxi Cabs make more sense in Manhattan versus anywhere else. No point in catching a uber when you have so many taxi's available right in front of you.

No Ubers make more sense overall, even in Manhattan. Clean cars overall, fixed rates, UberPool (I’ll walk a few blocks to save money), with an estimated arrival time. You can’t get any of that with yellow taxis.

In the Summer of 2015 it was still slightly cheaper to take a yellow cab from JFK to a location in Queens rather than Uber. I don't know what it is like now. FYI -At that time it was already possible to pay for the yellow cab using an app.

that is what i was going to say as well. my last trip in a yellow cab cost me $30+ for an otherwise $14 trip due to the rush hour stop and go situation. with uber, you always know how much you will pay beforehand. on top of that, the driver/car was smelly like hell and the driver had a dead fish attitude throughout the trip. everything together totally wiped out my sympathy for that line of business. my experience so far tells that uber drivers care more about customer service due to the rating system in place.

You just don't have a clue do you?

Residents of Manhattan use Uber *all* the time; this when they can walk out of their office, a club, bar, shopping, home or whatever and find taxis flying right by.

It costs near or ever $5 just to step into a yellow cab nowadays. https://www1.nyc.gov/site/tlc/passengers/taxi-fare.page

People like waiting indoors or whatever and then stepping outside when their ride (Uber or whoever) arrives. Just like having a personal chauffer driven ride.

LOL. Yellow cabs only like to work from 96 street to Battery Park. They had to create green cabs to service other areas.

Uber/Lyft/Via make more sense. They offer private rides and carpool. Yellow cab had the industry on LOCK but got too carry away with itself and allowed competitors to sneak in and take over.

I was in the MSG area and it was feeezing and i was able to quickly get a cab. Now overall i will choose uber because of the price but when walking in Manhattan cabs seem to be available a lot quicker. Again this is only in Manhattan not other areas.

What if its 8 degrees outside while walking in Manhattan and a cab is right in front of you?
