Hopefully Fair Fares will cut down on farebeating somewhat, as it will be easier for kids to get MetroCards.
In the example above, the farebeating police, or whatever they are called, only just motioned for the farebeaters to get off the bus. So if that's all they are planning to do at first, it really doesn't mess up any dumb 15 year old kids. Sounds like some warnings are being put into place to get people used to the idea that paying the fare is mandatory, and I definitely support that.

They don't hold up a bus for fare beating. Has been standard practice for ages to remove suspects off bus, then handle the arrest or whatever is going to happen "on the curb" so to speak. A moving bus is a confined space and you don't know what some eegit will do; ditto applies for subway, persons are either prevented from boarding and or escorted off at next stop.

Fare evasion by entering back door has been going on since the 1970's or whatever. It is pretty much a cut and dry situation; either someone is seen paying fare (boarding in front of bus and so forth), or not. Just by getting on a bus at rear without paying (and being observed doing so by LE) is enough reasonable cause to escort someone off.

In my day on SI NYPD would often be at certain problem bus stops (near Saint George ferry after school let out), and or some other problem areas known for huge FB issues. Just seeing an uniformed officer standing there as bus rolled in was enough to stop fools from attempting to even board via rear door.
