So nobody ever hopped a turnstile or got on the bus without paying before deBlasio?

Even when they were enforcing arrests ppl still did it.

I know I love how people blame everything on him. All the sh*t that is happening has been happing. People think Bloomberg was wonderful and for 12 years the city was this magical place. It wasn't. Personally Bloomberg era was much more dangerous for me than it is now.

They should make it so the back doors of the bus have one-way pushable bars so you can only use them to leave

If they do that the fat people will be upset that they cant fit though the bars. They already changed the busses to the lower ones from the old ones that had steps in the front and back to please the old people. those steps deterred open strollers with babies and shopping karts full of groceries on the busses, but now, they just roll them right on the back of the bus blocking the walkway.

The old busses also cut down on farebeating when a wheelchair person gets on because the bus driver would pull up, and not open the front doors. Everyone exited from the back then the wheelchair person boarded from the lift in the back the doors would close and lock. The bus driver then goes back to the front to open the front doors to let passengers on the front only.

People will do exactly as they are now; wait for exiting passenger(s) to clear door then hold/grab it open and get on. Only thing that has changed is newer buses have doors which self open; other than that farebeating on bus in 2019 via back door is same as 1999, 1989, 1979, etc...

Oh well, that didn't last long; Andy Byford has no balls and has caved in, there won't be any sort of NYPD crack down on fare beating after all.

The usual suspects made too much noise and now even that political hack Freddy Ferrer who is acting chairman of the MTA is putting the kibosh on Mr. Byford's plans.

Giuliani invested in the middle class and business ridding crime and creating a safe place for all New Yorkers.
Bloomberg invested in business off the backs of the N.Y.middle class tax payer. ( Greatest increase in property taxes. )
DiBlasio invested in the poor off the backs of the N.Y. middle class tax payer. ( Greatest city deficit starting off 2019 ).

Slogan for incumbent mayor's challenger..................

The middle class have left the building.

I'm sorry, a whole 20 percent of bus riders do not pay their fare?
Kids going to school with their school metrocards have to be included in inflating this number because that number is impossible.

How do you know what the percentage is? Did you do your own study? Please share it here.

The redesigned stations are a joke. The ones by me, all of the people who don't want to pay just go through the back and allow themselves through the emergency door. Because the emergency door is MAYBE four feet tall and anyone can put an arm over it, push the bar and allow themselves in no problem.

Actually, where I live, kids are some of the biggest offenders. They just get on without using a metrocard at all, so I wouldn't doubt it. When I was a kid, they NEVER let us do that and they would always give us a hard time.

The person who mentioned the wheelchairs, the people with walkers, carriages, etc. They don't pay either. And the last time a guy with a walker got on the bus I was on he started yelling to the bus driver, "She's with me! She's with me!" So that she wouldn't have to pay. Everyone is entitled to a free ride, I guess.
