The plastic bag thing isn't going to affect every store. Every restaurant that I go to still uses foam containers so it's not like it really worked. L1bt@rds can't guarantee penetration of their policies into the lower, sunless layers of the city planet.
Stores will find a way around this plastic bag "ban". Since it only applies to bags that are given away places will charge a small fee (< $0.05) and either issue a credit (redeemable for future purchases) or something.
Mark my words; by September or certainly Thanksgiving time supermarkets and other stores won't be able to keep plastic bags in stock. People are going to be loading up each time they make purchases.
Otherwise this is really going to suck people's nuts. I remember paper shopping bags and they were horrible. Ripped, leaked, and were a prime way for roaches and other bugs to hitchhike a ride into your home.
Biodegradable plastic bags are still allowed which honestly makes a lot more sense for single-use.
Just saw on the news the finding of a dead sperm whale, essentially starved, from a bunch of plastic in her stomach and this one was pregnant and washed up on Italian shores. This coming after a similar incident last month in the Philippines.
There’s also the beautiful sight of seeing the whirlwind of plastic bags on the streets and sometimes in the trees here. I’m pretty fine with the bag ban.
Plastic bag bann - I will agree that this was going to happen as at one time all super markets would have doubled paper-bags, then they went to paper-bags and plastic, Finally to just plastic double.
I mean plastic bag bann was going to happen, so why not go back to paper-bags as with Wholefoods??
About the mansion tax......Obviously they are doing this on purpose and everybody is too dumb to fight it. What I hate the most is the "home owners club" which is filled to the brim with racist retired people ( I mean the kind with teeth falling out ) are happy about things like this. However for a young person who is just starting out could be tragic

Idiots pushing for this plastic bag ban aren't happy, nor are they finished.
What they wanted was for *NOTHING* to be given away at stores, and or at least paper bags to be charged a fee. In their hippy-dippy la-di-da world everyone would carry a bag with them when going shopping.
You mark my words; Bill de Boob and or that some kind of city council will be proposing a fee on paper bags in upcoming weeks.

Again there is no "mansion" about this tax. It starts at one million which is peanuts; there is nil to little inventory of condos or co-ops in decent areas below one million. As for private homes staying under one million say on Staten Island will limit your options.
Between the Trump tax "cut" that limits mortgage deduction to under about $700k or so; and piled onto that loss of SALT deductions plenty of so called "middle class" are likely going to think twice about buying in NY. That is if they can afford to at all.
This new tax piles onto a host of others paid when buying a home in this state including a mortgage recording tax.
