Does anyone here find that they owe more taxes or have little to no refund? Personally, it's very rare that I get a refund, but I sure owed thousands in taxes this year.

I think that the recent tax adjustment hit blue states - and especially cities like New York - very hard, while red states are having a great ol' time collecting more in refunds.

I also know some housekeepers and other hourly employees getting thousands back. I can't figure it out: Besides having a child, or adjusting a holding of zero - what else can anyone do to get "thousands of dollars in refunds" instead of owing?

Your problem is you're probably making money by doing honest work. If you want to avoid taxes, work in the financial sector.

Obamacare is government payment to insurance companies, not to you OR to the unemployed.

Yeah, and people still had to meet their $700 a month of health insurance taxes. Obamacare was written by insurance companies to ensure they got paid their trillions of dollars. What better way to collect a debt than to have the government do it for you? If you don't pay, you go to jail. Bam. How smart these money-making liberals are!

I got back way less, but paid less taxes overall for the year.

My taxes in 2018 were 5k less than my taxes in 2017, although I earned the same amount. I had more money in my check every week.

Not saying that’s everyone’s experience with the new tax plan, but don’t judge it based on your “refund”... you really don’t want to be getting a large return, that means you paid too much out of every check all year.

Your goal should be to pay as little tax over the course of the year, while also not owing or getting anything back come tax time.

You have to adjust your widtholdings to find the sweet spot for your specific situation

Agreed. Instead you should opt for no insurance and roll the dice. If something happens we the taxpayers will be there to bail you out of course. Privatize profits socialize losses or something to that nature.
