Lately I've been really interested in traditional American food, especially from the South. But not just the usual stuff like fried chicken and barbecue ribs.

In particular, I want to try a Kentucky Hot Brown.

Pittsburgh has the "turkey Devonshire," which is exactly the same as the "hot brown." I can't recall any NYC eatery, which served anything like the "hot brown."

Any still open diner will have a hot turkey sandwich (on white bread) platter with mashed potatoes on the menu.

Try checking out the Chowhound forum, or flip through the index of Zagat.

The main restaurants for traditional American food are diners, and the Manna's chain of southern restaurants.

I find that diners do a lot of things, but most of them not that well besides the breakfast staples.

I would suggest you try DinerBar which is more modern upscale version of a diner/restaurant.
Dinerbar, Queens, New York, featuring breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks
