I'm going to Germany next week and need some Euros. Germany has a ton of cash only places, so I can't just use my card everywhere like the other times I travelled out of the country.

It is generally always better to exchange USD for Euro (or for any other local currency) at the destination than in the US, even if you are doing the exchange at the airport. But it is often better to exchange somewhere else in the city. Find out, not here but on Trip Advisor forum for the relevant city, whether there is a major difference in exchange rates at the airport vs. somewhere else in the city. If there is no major difference, just exchange all the money at the airport when you get there. If there is a difference, exchange $100 at the airport, and the rest in the city (ask on Trip Advisor forum where exactly).
That is generally where you get the worst possible rate :-).
Again, it is best to exchange USD for euro (or for anything) outside the US, at the country where you are traveling. Beyond that, the worst exchange rates abroad tend to be at hotels, second worst at banks (which charge fees) - money exchange services tend to be better. As I mentioned, sometimes (but not always) these money exchange services have the same exchange rates at the airport and in the city.
You can look up exchange rates at different places online, but just asking on Trip Advisor furum will save you time (or you can just search old Trip Advisor topics, because the questions about money exchange are among the more common ones on that forum).
Usually it is best at one's destination to find an ATM that accepts your American debit card and withdraw the local currency there.
